random musings...
God bless wireless internet.
i am currently lounging on the patio, sipping my tazo tea, typing on my ibook and listening to the jack jackson concert in the background. life is good.
God is good.
i find i have this habit of saving my blog postings (usually half written) and then forgetting about it later. so, what i have done is a conglomerate of these random postings and presenting it to you, my loyal readers (and a few internet stalkers out there), one gigantic post of cherie-filled musings.
in other words, i'm way too lazy to finish writing each one.
they might be incongruous (yeah, someone used a thesaurus) but these are all the things and thoughts that have been running thru my head in the past week.
[busy as a]

i went from doing nothing in the office to organizing two major events coming up before i leave for vancouver. the first one is our fancy schmany sauder alumni reception at the kee club on thursday nite and the other is the annual ubc/u of t dragon boat race in stanley.
gahh. i am only one person. who wants to help me? my boat guy fell thru at the last minute and i need to book two boats for may 31st. anyone know any good contacts for boat/junk rentals?
[job]

have you ever applied for a job you knew you were highly unqualified for? last week, i applied for the post as an east asia researcher and coordinator for the business and human rights resource centre. it is an independent, non-profit organization in collaboration with amnesty international that tracks and monitors the social & environmental conduct (positive & negative) of mnc's in violation of human rights and environmental laws.
i've always wanted to do something like this and hey, what have i got to loose right?
[golden lotus]

3-inches.
that was the aesthetic ideal way back in the day for the size of...
...a woman's feet.
i once wrote a paper for my asian studies class on the practice of foot binding and its effect on female emancipation in modern china. i called it the curse of the golden lotus. it's like braces for your feet where strips of cloth are wrapped so tightly that your flesh rot and bones break in order to achieve the 3-inch ideal.
but then again, women wear 3-inch stilettos nowadays so have things really changed that much?
so why did i bring this up? ...cuz i had a pair of shoes made in happy valley last week and the whole notion of women and shoes reminded me of the footbinding paper i wrote.

i'm going to be in the new promo video for ubc alumni affairs promoting HK and our alumni association. the vibe will be similar to the "hong kong-live it, love it" video.
hk pop idol here i come!
[like.a.river]

i've been getting quite emotional in church lately. i have this thing about crying in public (cuz it's a sign of weakness) but lately, my emotions have been out of wack and uncontrollable. i've never had that happen to me before (at least not in lgc anyway) so this is a whole new experience for me.
it's quite humbling and liberating really. it makes me real and in the flesh.
i can feel those walls slowly coming down.
All my fears that hold me back
Every worry on my mind
When I’m trapped and breaking down
Free me Lord
Every doubt that fills my life
I am a prisoner of my own mind
When I feel I can’t go on
Free me Lord
Still, I will be still
I will be still
I will be still
Let my mind be still
Let my soul be still
Let my life be still
Let my heart be still
i LOVE this song. it's written by tom read, the worship and creative director at my church in hk. there are so many talented and creative people at the vine and 180 that it's quite inspiring.
[spring]

it's that time of the year again. you know it's spring time when couples are getting engaged and getting married. i know three couples that are engaged and getting married this year already! i wonder who's gonna be next. most of my friends are in long term relationships right now and i can't wait until one of you guys get married so i can be part of the wedding madness. maybe in a year or two?
[time]

i just realized i'm living my own paradox.
i want everything and nothing at the same time.
i think i'm approaching my quarter-life crisis a touch too early.

it almost makes me wanna pick-up the guitar or piano again.
