I love weekends where you are free to do whatever you want. No schedules, no time restrictions, no planning. Just pure spontaneity. I love it. That was pretty much my weekend in a nut shell.
It all started on Saturday when Anne, Sarah and I went down to Zesty's on Commercial to hear some up-and-coming female comdians called the Laugh Riot Girls. We went there around 8:00pm, ordered some dinner and sat at a table near the stage. But once we realized we couldn't talk to each other during the show, we maintained our sanity by passing notes across the table.
After dinner, we met up with Anne's friend Annad from Calgary at Memphis Blues and shared a pitcher of beer on the patio. When the waiter came to "unroll" the awning, a few drops of water fell on Anne and we exchanged some sarcastic remarks and got a free pitcher out of it in the end. It was good times. And afterwards, a homeless man walked by and tried to sell us some of his artwork. He was trying to sell them for $25 but we thought it was too expensive so Annad offered to buy something from him for $10 + a piece of rib + half a baked potato and some collard greens. The deal was made and he sat down and talked with us while he was eating his "payment". He turned out to be quite an interesting character and this goes to show that everyone has a story to tell.
On Sunday, Sarah and I woke up early (and by early I mean 11:30am) and went down to Solly's with Victor for some Sunday brunch. We went to the Apple Mart afterwards and got some produce for dinner and headed back to campus. We made some limeaid and met up with Anna and Ryan for some ultimate frisbee. We didn't join in the game but we did bring a blanket to watch the game on and basically basked in the sunlight while Anna and Ryan played. Ahh...good times, good times. After the "game", Sarah and I decided to grab some sushi and we ate them in the Nitobe Garden. It was so nice in there with all the moss and cherry blossom trees and I think our sushi tasted better because we were eating them in an authentic Japanese garden (meh...probably not though).
After church, we made margarita pizzas with a spring-time mandarine orange salad (curtesy of Victor) and stuffed our faces with giant strawberries dipped in chocolate and whipped cream. We amused ourselves during dinner by singing showtunes and soft favorites from 103.5. Ahh...it was a lovely end to a lovely weekend. Yah for friends and good company!
