dads say the darndest things...

i called my dad last weekend to wish him a happy father's day and he said something really funny that made me laughed out loud and almost made me choke on the apple i was eating. he was telling me about this wedding invitation he had received in the mail from a close family friend of ours (the bride and groom to-be made all the invitation cards themselves!!) and went on to say how he planned to 'save' the card for me in case i needed any ideas for my own wedding. i didn't know whether to laugh or cry when i heard it but my mom thinks it's cute. i've never met anyone so anxious to play with their future grand kids before. bless you dad! but you've got a long while to wait.

aside from the wedding jokes, there's something else my dad said that really struck a cord in my heart. i've never heard my dad say this before so i was definitely caught off-guard...but in a good way. he said, "cherie, i think it's really important for you to marry a Christian. you need someone who shares the same foundation as you in order to build a purposeful relationship."

now, a lot of you might think this is a very typical Christian dad's criteria for her daughter's future husband BUT, you see, my dad is not a Christian. altho he's been going to church with my mom since they were dating, i don't think he's fully accepted Jesus into his heart yet. he's still got a lot of questions and feels let down by all the injustice and the so-called Christians out there who uses religion and God for their own selfish gain. my dad has always had his own ideas about religion and so for someone like my dad to tell me how important it is to marry a Christian, it totally blows my mind.

if you asked me two years ago, i would've said it wasn't that important to marry a Christian. allyouneedislove. period. but lately, God has really confirmed that in my heart and He sealed it with what my dad said last weekend.

singleness IS a gift and i need to use it for His purpose alone. the rest is a bonus.

I could not imagine what my life would be like if Jacinta was not a Christian...it means so much to me to be able to share my faith with my soul mate.

Cherie, I miss you lots...it feels weird that you're not in Vancouver! Thanks for sharing your dad's words and your wisdom--you can't imagine how timely those words are...

amen girl.. amen...
single is so often perceived as negative that sometimes its so easy for me to forget this - actually i was sitting next to my big boss yesterday during lunch and she was like do you have a boyfriend and i was like no.. and she gave me this look like "poor girl" and in that instant i felt like crap.
but reading your entry just reminded me that i'm NOT single. i'm going out with God. and it's just so lovely.... isn't it? =)
