hi, my name is...
i know my posts have been lacking in substance lately (thanx brand) but a real update is coming soon, i promise! things are kinda hectic at the office right now with the canada d'eh celebrations coming up so hold on to your seats for a major update!
and in the spirit of the bus uncle phenomenon, here's me making a fool of myself for the ubc alumni promo video. this is not the actual video but one of the MANY out-takes from the shoot. we shot it in a few hours by the star ferry for vancouver to promote the ubc alumni association in canada. we were going for the "live it, love it" vibe but you gotta make-do with a zero budget and an unwilling subject.
i had to use dropshots cuz you never know with youtube these days. i can see this coming to bite me in the butt later when the real video comes out and is shown at every single ubc convocation.

after reading derek's post on fame, it reminded me of an incident last year dealing with this issue (albeit very short lived and in a totally different context).
my first experience of fame in hk was last summer at a club in lkf. my friend had invited me out for the nite and i went out thinking nothing of it at the time. a week later, over lunch with some family friends, an auntie took out an hk gossip magazine and pointed at a photo inside and asked if it was me.
the photo was a very bad, poorly pixelated, nite-vision ish image of a group of people sitting in a club. and lo-and-behold- there was me in all my glory. apparently, the person sitting next to me was an offspring of some famous socialite or celebrity in hk. i am clueless about celebrities in hk so i had no idea who she was except a friend of my friend from vancouver. the title of the article was something like 'partying every nite and spending daddy's money' blahblahblah.
when i first saw my face in that photo, i was like, cool i'm in a magazine! but then the creeppy factor came into play and i realized that fame, or at least the hkgossipmagazinekindafame is not what it's cracked up to be. it's intrusive, usually negative and has only one goal in mind- to make money at someone else's expense.
