Here are some interesting tidbits from my first day of work...
- The APRO office in Central is eerily familiar to the UBC office in Vancouver. They purposely used the same color scheme, funiture and designer to create the "UBC" feel in HK
- the ladies room smells like jasmine
- we have air heads in our candy tray
My first day of work was as typical as it can get- a lot of introductions and admin stuff to take care of. At around 12pm, my boss (not the big boss, she's coming in August) treated me out to lunch at a Japanese restaurant. I asked her what time and how long lunch usually is and she said, "whenever you feel hungary and however long you need to eat lunch. Let's take advantage of it before the director arrives next month." She's a real awesome lady...really open minded and carefree. She graduated from Psychology in '95 and has been working in HK for 12 years. She's the alumni relations manager in HK.
Even tho i've only started work yesterday, there are already a lot of stuff to take care of in the coming months. Some of the events the office is overseeing in the next month are...
- Prof. Curtis Suttle's (Associate Dean, Science) presentation/reception at the Canadian Consulate
- the arrival of our development officer Derrick
- the arrival/visit of Katherine Beaumont, Go Global Director
- the arrival of our regional director, Teresa
- Singapore student send-off
- Shanghai student send-off
- alumni boat cruise
Wish me luck!
